Transmission #013: Game music
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
We finally wired the game music into the game. The same tracks from the Soundtrack wiki (the ones you can preview there) now play in Helerion: a MusicManager in the main scene picks from the in-game pool at random and keeps the music going track after track. Dictator Song is set aside as the title-screen track for when we add one; the rest (Korvak, Ode, Pink Dust, Ragnoroq, Shores of Sacrafice, Winds of the Haunted) shuffle during play. We also added an API so we can trigger specific tracks later—e.g. for a boss fight or other key moment—and optionally resume random playback when the moment’s over.
So if you fire up the game today, you get music. Sláinte.
Mobile controls got a layout pass too. On touch, the old cluster of seven action sticks is gone. In its place you get four small tilt sticks in a diamond on the right (west / north / east / south): by default that’s Defense, Ranged, Melee, and Jump. Melee picks unarmed vs armed from what you’re holding in your main hand, and the diamond sits next to the look stick with tunable inset and colors so it’s easier to read at a glance. Ability and interact aren’t on dedicated sticks anymore—you’ll use stick combos or keyboard until we add more UI there.
